ARGUS is built with a privacy-first architecture. We believe your security tools should protect you, not surveil you.
Introduction
ARGUS Labs ("we", "us", "our") operates the ARGUS browser extension and the arguslabs.tech website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our products and services.
ARGUS is privacy-first by design. The extension operates primarily on your local machine, and no data is transmitted without your explicit consent and configuration.
Information We Collect
- Account Data — Email address and display name collected via Firebase Authentication, only if you choose to create an account. Account creation is optional.
- Extension Settings — Your configuration and preferences are stored locally in
chrome.storageon your device. This data is never transmitted to our servers. - URLs & Page Content — Only sent to AI providers or threat intelligence APIs if you explicitly enable these features in your settings. All such features are disabled by default.
- No Tracking — We do not collect analytics, telemetry, browsing history, or behavioral data. There are no tracking pixels, fingerprinting, or hidden data collection mechanisms.
Third-Party Services
The following third-party services are only activated when you explicitly enable them in the extension settings:
AI Analysis Providers
OpenAI Anthropic Google AI
Used for AI-powered security analysis. Data sent includes page metadata and risk findings only when you initiate a scan.
Threat Intelligence APIs
VirusTotal AbuseIPDB URLScan.io
Used for threat intelligence lookups. Data sent includes URLs, domains, and IP addresses that you explicitly choose to scan.
Firebase (Google)
Used for authentication and team management features. Data stored includes email address and organization membership.
Data Storage
- Extension data is stored locally in
chrome.storage.localon your device and remains under your full control. - Firebase account data is stored in Google Cloud infrastructure (US regions) and is subject to Google's security practices.
- API keys are encrypted using AES-GCM encryption before being stored locally, ensuring they cannot be read in plaintext.
Data Retention
- Local extension data is retained on your device until you choose to clear it through the extension settings or by uninstalling the extension.
- Firebase account data is retained until you request account deletion.
- We do not maintain server-side logs of scanned URLs, page content, or analysis results.
Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Regardless of your location, we provide all users with the following rights:
- Access — Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — Correct any inaccurate personal data.
- Deletion — Delete your account and all associated data at any time directly from the extension.
- Export — Export your extension settings and configuration data.
- Portability — Receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.

Cookies
The ARGUS browser extension does not set, read, or modify cookies in your browser.
The arguslabs.tech website uses no tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. Only essential cookies required for basic site functionality may be used.
Security
We take the security of your data seriously and implement the following measures:
- API keys are encrypted using AES-GCM (Advanced Encryption Standard in Galois/Counter Mode) before storage.
- Firebase Authentication with email verification ensures secure account access.
- No plaintext credential storage at any point in the data lifecycle.
- The extension follows the principle of least privilege, requesting only the browser permissions necessary for its functionality.
Children's Privacy
ARGUS is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at privacy@arguslabs.tech so we can take appropriate action.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
For significant changes that materially affect your rights, we will provide notice through the extension or via email if you have an account.
